Shivery lips - a slam poem

Who are they to judge us?
Who are they to tell us we are not beautiful?
Who are they to call us too thin or too fat?
Who are they to critize our size?
Who are they to tell us we are not good enough for their standards
and the only thing we should be focusing on is changing ourselves so
we would fit their imaginary ideas of beauty?
Who are they to look at us like we were nothing just because
the jeans we buy aren´t the smallest size of them all?
Who are they?
Actually they are just people.
They aren´t better than us.
They aren´t the same as us but they are equal.
We are different and just because somebody has a waist of a model
that doesn´t give them the right to make us feel worthless.
Don´t focus on them because they call you names and talk behind your back
but that is only because they are insecure themselves.
A few of us are truly happy with the way we look
and that is nothing new because in a world like this
we are taught to hate who we are and what we look like and
even if we feel that we are capable of something they tell us we are not.
Don´t listen to them because
the only thing they want is you not to be better than they are.
Dare to ignore all they say and focus on the things you love.
Skinny legs and hipbones may find you some "pretty friends" to show up with
or guys who will want to kiss your shivery lips from not eating for three days
but that body is not worth any of these things.
That body won´t find you any true friends who would stand up for you
when they call you all the names behind your back and you are not there.
That body won´t find you true love if you are insecure your whole life
and the person you claim to love is only interested in you for the way you look.
The only thing that matters is who you are
because if who you are isn´t proud of who you are
then it is all meaningless.
You are a soul full of dreams and hopes
and the things that matter we are not able to hold
and that is why your soul is so precious because you cannot touch something so beautiful
as a soul filled with kindness and love.
However you can touch a body regardless the fact how it looks.
It is sure pretty but not beautiful.
